Generally, in humanity’s history, we can logically say that our contact with any extraterrestrial intelligence has yet to come but if first contact would happen, it is going to be a big news. What humanity is not certain whether that news will tell that aliens or extraterrestrials are here to solve all of our problems or they will turn out to be hostile to our entire species. A group of scientists from NASA’s Planetary Science division and Pennsylvania State University provides their thought on possible scenarios on what will be the news if humanity’s first encounter with aliens happens or might not happen at all.
First scenario is that Extraterrestrials ignore us because they have a policy not to respond us. It is also possible that they do not communicate us because they think humans are nothing but a low class species.
Second, aliens may have contacted us but their messages are not fully understand or decode. Many think that several times extraterrestrials contacted us but we fail to understand their signals. If we find out that aliens do exist, it will massively change our philosophy from science to religion. Knowing the fact that extraterrestrial beings exist somewhere else is enough reason to re-evaluate our existence.
Fourth scenario is the possibility that extraterrestrials will help us solve our problems given the fact that they are much more advanced than human beings. There is a greater chance that aliens are cooperative since it is difficult to expand into space if these aliens are not cooperative. They could provide us insights on how to avoid technological tragedy such as climate change or nuclear war. Another scenario is that aliens will attempt to destroy us but we can successfully defeat them maybe because of our technology that extraterrestrials do not have or maybe some environmental factors could destroy the aliens. There is also a possibility that another ETI would come to rescue us.
The sixth scenario is that extraterrestrials are annoying or boring. Maybe most of us think that aliens are more intelligent or more advance than human but still there is no certainty of that. They might show to our planet as refugees needing our help without much to offer in return. The seventh scenario is that aliens will eat us under certain fact that everything has to eat something else. Humans may be an ideal source of extraterrestrial beings’ nutrition since we are high up on the food chain and have intellect to take good care of ourselves.
Other possible scenarios are that aliens will enslave us, will steal our resources, will destroy Earth for a greater good, will kill humans for being a bad species, will kill us by accident, will kill us since they are capable to do so like humans kill dolphins for food, sport, or for research study. There is also possibility that extraterrestrials will manipulate humans to kill each other. Other scenarios are that aliens are intentionally or unintentionally hiding from us and maybe extraterrestrials are not really there at all.
